The Bachelorette Story Summary:
The Bachelorette is a reality game show that airs on the ABC network. The show was created as a counterpart to The Bachelor and features one eligible, single female who narrows down a field of 25 to 30 men as a potential husband. In the final episode, one of the two men remaining proposes to the bachelorette who can then accept or refuse. The original series aired from 2003 to 2005 and returned in 2008 for its current run.
The popular series has seen its share of drama, with many contestants of both sexes crossing over from The Bachelor and competing from the opposite position. Generally, the runner-up from each show becomes an eligible party the following season.
Over eight seasons of The Bachelorette, three of the final couples have broken up, two of the ladies ended up marrying someone not related to the series and one relationship from season seven remains in question. The only success story thus far has been from season one winners Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter who married and have two children together.
While devised as a novel way for people to meet, get to know one another and possibly marry, The Bachelorette does present some negative stereotypes in the dating world, namely the focus on looks and potential. Relationships end for a variety of reasons, on or off television, but this show seems to prove it is difficult to quantify something as mysterious as human chemistry.
